Most people dramatically under- or over-estimate their newsletter's value because they never multiply the funnel out. Revenue from a list is a chain: subscribers → opens → clicks → conversions → dollars. A small leak at any stage compounds.

First, it shows your revenue per subscriber per month — the single most important number for deciding how much you can afford to spend acquiring a new subscriber. The three levers that move the number most
- List growth rate. Compounding is everything. Going from 4% to 8% monthly growth nearly doubles your list in a year. Lead magnets and consistent publishing drive this.
- Conversion value. Selling a $35 product vs a $200 one is a 5.7× swing on the same traffic. Higher-value offers (or recurring ones) change the math instantly.
- Deliverability. Every email in spam is a 0% open. Clean infrastructure protects the top of the whole funnel.
